50 + Summer Events Family Things To Do Yorkshire 2021

There is plenty on this summer in Yorkshire for families. I have found quite a few fun family-friendly events across East Riding of Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. I have also included ideas for other fun things to do this summer near you that might not necessarily be open or something that you would do during colder months.

It may also be an idea to check with the attraction that everything is as advertised the day before you visit.

Beach Day in Yorkshire

Yorkshire has some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. Both East Riding and North Yorkshire have a great and varied choice of beaches to visit. There’s tourist beaches, picturesque (but slightly hard to reach) beaches and more.

Eden Camp – 1940s living history weekend – North Yorkshire

A Bit About – “Re-enactors will be on-site over the bank holiday weekend; the groups will be portraying both military and civilians, helping to enhance the 1940s theme and allowing visitors to get up close to uniforms, clothing and kit of the period. All visitors to the museum are invited to join in with the fun and get dressed up in either civilian or military period clothing.”

A Bit About – “The Gruffalo Spotters Trail is brought to life by an App – Gruffalo Spotter 2. Forestry England recommend that you download the app before you leave home as not all of their forests have great mobile reception. As well as the app you can purchase an activity pack from the vistor centre of the forest you choose to hunt for the Gruffalo in.”

Harewood House – Various Events – West Yorkshire

A Bit About – Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Outdoor theatre – 23rd July. Mr Stink outdoor theatre – 29th and 30th July. The further adventures of Dr Doolittle – 3rd August….and more.
Plus Harewood House was a Woodland Wonderland play trail on now until the 31st of October. As part of our new circular walk, this year families can enjoy our new woodland pop-up play, created with willow weaver Leilah Vyner. With winding willow mazes, twisting and turning between the trees, there is plenty to discover in this new outdoor play space. Nestled next to Harewood’s All Saints’ Church, our new play space sits in an area of woodland not usually open to the public, and is just waiting for you to explore!

Sheffield – Bears of Sheffield Trail – South Yorkshire

A Bit About – The sculpture trail is back for another year as bears are set to take to the streets of Sheffield in 2021. You will meet 100 little bears decorated by talented school children of all ages from schools across the region. Plus 60 big bear sculptures brought to life by professional local and international artists. The bears will be placed, here, bear and everywhere across the city of Sheffield for you to find. When you find a bear you tick it off on your map or app and if you really like your bear you can donate towards it!

YO1 Beach Club – York City Centre – North Yorkshire

A Bit about – Whether foreign holidays happen this summer or not, the residents of York at least won’t have to venture far afield to enjoy some sand, deckchairs and all things beachy when an exciting new attraction opens this summer. The YO1 Beach Club is a brand-new family-friendly space located in Tower Gardens at the foot of Skeldergate Bridge, opening on Thursday 24th June and running until Sunday 5th September. There is food, drinks, ice creams, milkshakes and slushies on offer. You can even buy a bucket and spade to play in the sand!

Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta – York Racecourse – North Yorkshire

A Bit About – Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta, formerly York Balloon Fiesta, returns for 2021 with the biggest hot air balloon festival Yorkshire has ever seen. This four-day festival includes a weekend of hot air balloons, children’s entertainment, live music, tribute acts, food and drink, as well as a large funfair. The pinnacle of the festival will be the popular Hot Air Balloon Night Glow, followed by a brand new firework, drone and laser show!
