Cusworth Hall Museum and Park Free Day Out

Cusworth Hall Museum and Park is a FREE day out near Doncaster in South Yorkshire. It’s a nice play to spend a few hours and there are some great views from the top of the hill over towards Doncaster. The hall and museum are maintained by the Doncaster council.

The hall is a Grade 1 listed building that is set in parkland. The museum explores and documents Doncaster’s social history and is a great place for kids to learn more about the past. It covers life from the 18th century up until the present day.

Cusworth Hall Museum and Park Things To Do Review

The hall itself has a car park that is a short walk away from the museum and parkland. There is a charge to pay although lower down the hill in the local village it is possible to park for free. We have never done this so I’m afraid I couldn’t recommend where exactly to park. Opening times for the hall itself are quite casual so it is worth asking someone when you arrive if it isn’t yet open.

If you want to explore the park there are some pretty formal gardens down to the left of the hall. No bikes or dogs off leads are allowed in this area although you can take them around most of the grounds. Dogs are not permitted in the hall/museum.

I can recommend taking some duck friendly food as there’s usually a few friendly geese and ducks down by the lakes. If you don’t have any it is possible to purchase some from their shop. It is quite a steep hill down to the lakes from the hall but the paths are good and are accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

There is a relatively large play area up by the main car park at Cusworth Hall. This has a variety of play equipment for toddlers right up to older children. The play equipment is mostly made of metal and there are lots to climb, slide and swing on. There are a few benches dotted around for adults to sit.

The museum is also free to enter and look around. There are three floors of exhibitions with a lift for access. Many of the rooms have interactive displays which are perfect for kids. They even have exhibitions aimed at older kids with code-breaking and more. The museum is what you make it and you could certainly spend a long time in there if you wanted to.

They have some dress up in one of the rooms plus some toys for younger children. Down in the basement, you can see the old kitchens which have been set up how they would have looked when they were in use.

There is also a small chapel within the hall. It is a really lovely free day out. You could take a picnic although we can recommend the cafe. There isn’t much seating inside so make sure you get there early.
