Fraisthorpe Beach, Near Bridlington | Visitor Guide

The popularity of beaches on the Yorkshire coast is increasing. I have a feeling it could stay like this for some time to come. Fraisthorpe beach is a beautiful beach away from all the arcades, rides and noise of Bridlington. If you’re looking for some peace and quiet with large open sandy beaches then this is the beach for you. Even on a busy day, you don’t have to walk far until you can find a nice quiet spot.

Fraisthrope Beach also allows dogs all year round so if you want to take your pooch then this beach is ideal. You are asked to keep your dog on a lead and clean up after them. People also use this beach to ride their horses.

The beach can be found approximately 10 minutes drive south of Bridlington. There is a brown sign off the A165 from Hull. You take a left in the small village of Fraisthorpe and it’s then another few minutes down a narrow and relatively bendy road.

Once there you park right by the beach. This is the only parking and it costs £5 for all-day (cash in a net or contactless). The further you park in the car park the steeper the access to the beach. The prices may reduce over the winter. Although it is not 24 hours. It usually opens at 8:30 am and shuts at dusk. It’s an idea to check with them if you plan on leaving late.

The beach has fewer pebbles and shells than the beach at Bridlington. It is a sandy beach perfect for building sandcastles. If you’re feeling adventurous you can walk to Bridlington from here. I think it would take about an hour to walk there.

Also like Bridlington, the sea is very shallow here so you can walk a good distance out before it becomes deep. There is always a section of sand even when the tide is in. It is always a good idea to check the tide times before visiting. Please click here to check the tide times for Fraisthorpe beach.

During the two world wars, many pillbox structures were built along the coastline. Some of these still remain today and there’s a couple that are more intact than most just a short walk along the beach. There are even some really large broken ones at the main entrance to Fraisthorpe beach.
