Puttstars Indoor Mini Golf Leeds Review

After visiting Puttstars in York and loving it we decided to give Puttstars in Leeds a try as it is a good halfway meeting point with my Mum. It turns out they are pretty similar to each other. The Leeds venue is set out on two floors with the easier of the three courses on the ground floor. The courses have the same names.

Puttstars in Leeds, West Yorkshire is located just off the M1. It is part of a relatively new out-of-town development with shops, restaurants and a modern cinema. It also has the benefit of free parking although you can’t park outside Puttstars itself as that area is pedestrianised.

You can book to play 1, 2 or all 3 of the courses. I recommend booking two as one isn’t enough and three felt a bit like one too many for us. Booking for 2 courses is also easier on the wallet.

We were there for about an hour and a half as we also stopped for some lunch. We all had a pizza as their menu is quite basic but they were hot and tasty. They also have an on-site bar serving a range of drinks.

My son chose to play the downstairs course first of Slingshot. Although we had played the courses before at the venue in York we didn’t really remember any of the holes.

Once you’ve collected your balls you can select a club and get playing. The whole concept of scoring is different to what you are used to. At the start of the first hole you enter in your code for playing and a member of staff had already entered our names. You are given two jokers which you can choose to play on two holes of your choosing. Choose wisely as the fewer shots you take on those holes the more points you will receive.

Each hole is then scored in points so a hole in one gets you 1,000 points. In 2, 800 points, in 3, 600 points etc. Each of the three courses has 9 holes.

The holes are themed really well with a variety of challenges. We failed most challenges but we had a laugh trying. There are tables all the way around so you can move your drinks with you as you go. Each hole has brightly coloured astroturf and we found it to be really quiet. It was slightly busier upstairs and we did have to wait a short while on most holes but never for too long.

At the end of our round, our balls were retained so we had to collect one more each from reception. We then ventured upstairs to where their Pinball and Zig Zag courses are. These were also themed according to their names.

My son chose the Zig Zag course as he remembered that he’d found the Pinball course to be quite a challenge. My son is 8 and I think this age and older is perfect for the courses, kids slightly younger may be OK. I think younger kids would really struggle as there is a lot of skill needed to play most of the holes well.

Between the three of us, I think we only managed about three holes in one. It was certainly a challenge and we all enjoyed ourselves. We would certainly return and maybe visit the cinema as well.

It’s worth checking their website before you visit in case they have any special web-only offers. These can include family discounts, golf with drinks and even unlimited golf at certain times. I prebooked online but you can turn up and play, although you may have to wait a while if it is busy with people who have prebooked. There is also a mini arcade with machines you can win tickets on in exchange for prizes. They can even host your child’s birthday party.
