Puttstars York Mini Golf is a relatively new attraction to come to Monks Cross on the outskirts of York. There is also one in Leeds and Rochdale. We visited on an inset day and it was lovely and quiet. I’m not sure how busy it would normally be but if you can get there at 10 am it should be at its quietest.
We prebooked our timeslot online in advance. It’s a little complicated getting there by car and although I was following the sat nav I went wrong a couple of times. You basically just have to keep following the road around the back of the leisure centre (and not go into the leisure centre car park).
Puttstars Mini Golf York Review
We spent about 1.5 hours there and played all three courses. We didn’t really stop for a drink or anything to eat so you could spend longer there, or shorter if you only play one round. Once there you are free to play when you please.
There are three different 9 hole courses so I booked 3 rounds. This meant that we could play each one but we could have played the same one three times if we wanted. We would certainly return, stay for lunch as their pizzas looked lovely and then book ten pin bowling at the also relatively new Hollywood Bowl next door.
When you arrive you are given a code. This is then entered at the start of each course onto a screen and at the end of each hole. This code then keeps track of your scores. The scoring isn’t like normal crazy golf though nor is this like any kind of crazy golf that we’ve played before.
Each hole is scored in points, so if you get a hole in one you get 1,000 points, in 2: 800 points, in 3: 600 points etc. PLUS you get two jokers for each round of 9 holes. If you play this on a hole your score on that hole gets multiplied by two so choose your holes wisely.
The three courses are Slingshot, Pinball and Zig Zag. They are all themed according to their name. The holes were all in great condition and made of different coloured astroturf. All the courses were visually appealing and looked crazy fun.
We started on the Pinball course and I must admit that on some of the more challenging holes we may have let each other off a couple of shots. Some of the obstacles were really unique and great fun. We had such a fun time and it was especially great when we scored a hole in one as they weren’t easy to come by.
We both agreed that the Slingshot course was our favourite. It wasn’t too challenging compared to the others and we both scored high enough to put ourselves on the computerised leaderboard. This is how the rounds are displayed at the end but there’s only 10 on each leaderboard so you may not show up on there. The whole place felt really clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.
If you look on their website they usually have offers running. These often include family discounts, golf with drinks and even unlimited golf from a certain time. I hadn’t remembered my purse which I was in major trouble about as they also have some amusements that my son kept nagging me to go on.
They can even host your child’s birthday party with a range of packages on offer (even teenagers).
